HTI Consulting, a leading hospitality and real estate consultancy firm, was named Property Services Group of the Year at the 8th Annual API Awards.

The API Awards, the premier event in the African real estate industry, recognises outstanding achievements and innovations shaping the continent’s property sector.

HTI Consulting’s win in this highly competitive category highlights the firm’s commitment to delivering exceptional services and driving positive change across Africa’s diverse markets.
Wayne Troughton, CEO of HTI Consulting, expressed his gratitude for the recognition, “We are deeply honoured to receive this esteemed award. Over the past year, HTI Consulting has further demonstrated its extensive expertise across Africa by delivering diverse tailored services that drive hospitality projects to completion. This achievement is a testament to our team’s hard work and dedication, as well as the trust placed in us by our clients over the last 12 months and throughout our 21 years in the industry.”

HTI Consulting’s impact on the Pan-African real estate landscape over the past year has been substantial, with the firm completing an impressive array of projects across 30 countries. These include 51 Feasibility/Market Studies, 19 Management/Lease Contract Advisory services, 4 Due Diligence Studies, 7 Mixed-Use Feasibility Studies, 4 Valuations (including portfolios), and 1 Transaction. The company’s geographic reach spans from Tanzania and South Africa to Ivory Coast and Morocco, showcasing its ability to operate effectively in established and frontier markets.

One of HTI Consulting’s most notable achievements has been its involvement in the African Export-Import Bank Africa Trade Centre (AATC) projects. This ambitious initiative aims to establish leading commercial and business centres across Africa comparable to world trade centres. The AATC projects, which blend conference facilities, trade facilitation services, hotels, and workspaces, are underway in Abuja, Harare, Kampala, and Cairo, with future developments planned in various other cities.

“We are proud to be part of the key project team for the AATC projects,” Troughton added. “These pioneering developments are set to transform the commercial landscape of Africa, and we’re honoured to play a role in bringing them to fruition.”

HTI Consulting’s portfolio of notable projects over the past year includes pivotal contract negotiations, feasibility studies, operator selection and due diligence on debt-financed projects and acquisitions for key clients like the National Social Security Fund of Tanzania, Kasada Capital Management and Afreximbank. The firm has kept up with the trends in African hotel development by involving airport hotels, leisure resorts, and safari lodge developments across East and Southern Africa.

The company’s versatility is evident in its ability to operate across various real estate sectors, from hospitality to mixed-use developments. HTI Consulting provides comprehensive services, including market and financial feasibility studies, financial modelling, operator selection, and due diligence. This adaptability, coupled with a deep understanding of African markets, has enabled the firm to work in some of the continent’s most unconventional and challenging markets, including São Tomé and Príncipe, Comoros, Somalia, and Djibouti.

HTI Consulting has been very active on the island of Zanzibar, which is currently one of the highest-growth leisure destinations globally. Our involvement covered operator selection and contract negotiation, which saw the first Canopy by Hilton Hotel signed in Tanzania, various feasibility studies for stand-alone and large multiple resort destinations, and a transaction that resulted in Attitude Hotels’ first hotel development on the island.

“Our diversified range of services continues to transform visionary hospitality projects into reality, no matter where they are located on the African continent,” Troughton explained. “From securing debt finance to offering asset management and brokerage services, our end-to-end consulting solutions are meticulously crafted to chart the right course for investment success, regardless of market conditions or regional challenges.”

As HTI Consulting celebrates this prestigious recognition, the company remains focused on its mission to drive investment success and shape the future of real estate and hospitality on the continent.
