Retail development specialists, McCormick Property Development (MPD), have proudly announced the launch of their 88th retail project: Leeuwfontein Crossing in Marble Hall, Limpopo. This development pays homage to the original MPD projects established between 1983 and 2008, marked by the signature ‘Umhlanga Wave’ blue roof, reminiscent of the iconic designs of the past.
During MPD’s founding years, the company created developments that set a benchmark in the rural retail landscape, characterized by single-level, yellow face brick buildings topped with teal corrugated iron roofs and open-plan layouts, facilitating easy access for customers arriving on foot or by car.
Since the initial development in Dendron in 1983, MPD has developed over 850 m² of essential retail hubs across five provinces to cater to the needs of local communities. Leeuwfontein Crossing has been thoroughly modernized to meet contemporary retail demands, all while honoring its origins and indicating a bright future for retail.
“It was a moment to pause and reflect when the architects presented their colour palette for this development,” explains MPD’s Managing Director, Jason McCormick. “It was a complete coincidence that brought home the legacy of our beginnings and how far we have come in retail development.”
Designed by Living Planet Architects, Leeuwfontein Crossing serves as a small community center spanning just under 10,000 sqm, hosting 28 stores anchored by Shoprite. The design allows for future expansion as additional planned Gross Leasable Area (GLA) is incorporated into the first phase’s footprint. The diverse tenant mix includes Standard Bank, Shoprite Liquor, Studio 88, Pep, Ackermans, with a planned Sportscene. A robust food offering features KFC, Debonaires, and Hungry Lion.
This marks the fifth shopping center developed by MPD since September 2024, and the third one in Limpopo during the same timeframe. The real estate investment trust Exemplar will manage the center, which boasts a retail management portfolio of 681,936 m² across six provinces, including Leeuwfontein Crossing.
